September 29, 2005

Hello Fans,

On Monday, September 12, after months of rehab, I was thrilled to finally take the field with my teammates for the first time this season. I was overwhelmed with emotion, especially because of the reception from the fans. At the start of the game, I was joined in left field by a new friend of mine, Christopher Laub. Back in April, Chris wrote me a letter telling me to stay strong and not to give up. The irony is that Chris himself was going through his own hardship since the beginning of the year when he was diagnosed with leukemia. Chris' letter was such an inspiration to me that I wanted him to be with me when I made my comeback this year.

It has been great to be back with the guys and playing well as a team. We flew to Washington for the last road trip of the year. I was a little worried about how my knee would respond to the cross-country flight, but it did okay and I felt pretty good afterwards. I haven't had time to go through any emails from my fans or update my journal. As a matter of fact, I only turned on my computer yesterday for the first time since we've been on the road.

On Wednesday the 21st, I was lucky enough to take a private tour at the Pentagon. It was such a great experience to see all that goes on there. I had no idea that the Pentagon is like its own little city. They have all sorts of stores, banks and medical offices in the building so you dont have to leave to get your personal business taken care of.

I had the pleasure of meeting General Myers, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Vice Chairman as well as our Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld. I have such respect for those who serve our country. I would like to send a special thank you to all who helped put the tour together.

Today, Thursday the 29th, I'm here in my hotel room reading and answering emails from my fans. Yesterday's game was heartbreaking and we are officially out of the divisional race. We have one more game in San Diego before going home to San Francisco for the last homestand of the season.

Later,

Barry Bonds
