Here is an interview I just did in Colorado, click here to listen.

April 15th, 2007

Dear Fans,

As you all know today is one of the most important dates in baseball history - if not American history. On this date Jackie Robinson became the first African-American to play in a major league baseball game. He took the field as a Brooklyn Dodger wearing #42 on his uniform. I will be wearing a uniform with Jackie's #42 (along with other players) to honor the man who single-handedly integrated baseball 60 years ago today. Jackie's presence in baseball changed not just for African-Americans but for Latins, Asians and others. He opened the door which allowed those of us who followed to walk through it. Jackie Robinson made baseball for everyone.

Even after his baseball career was over Jackie's positive impact was felt throughout America with his involvement in humanitarian and political issues.

Also, I deeply admire Jackie's widow, Rachel. She has done a remarkable job carrying on her husband's legacy through the Jackie Robinson Foundation which provides college scholarships and leadership development for minority youths.

Jackie Robinson played 10 seasons in the majors - and he did it his way.

Thank you Jackie.
