February 23, 2006
Dear Fans,
It's hard to believe we are already in February and baseball is starting. Today was the first day of six weeks of Spring Training and I am ready to get into the daily routine. I took it easy and used this morning to get acclimated. I am getting used to the knee brace I will wear this season as a precautionary measure and I can really feel the difference. I had the chance to test it out today on the field and it felt great. We took batting practice in the new cages and saw some live pitching as well. All in all, I thought it was a good day.
I'm sure a lot of you read the article that ran in a national newspaper Monday. I would like to clarify a few things.
I was not announcing my retirement. That is something that I will evaluate and talk to my family about after the 2006 season. I have one more year left on my contract with the Giants and I am fully committed to playing and hopefully bringing home a championship to San Francisco. As long as I can perform at the level I am accustomed to, I will continue to play.
I do have fun playing baseball. I have grown up in this game and wouldn't have played for 20 years if I didn't truly love and enjoy the sport.
On a separate note, I wanted to tell you all to go out and see my friend Tyler Perry's new movie, Madea's Family Reunion. (http://www.tylerperry.com) Once again, Tyler has put together an outstanding movie where at times I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. Madea tells it like it is and says what needs to be said -- I like that.
Later,
Barry Bonds
